Sunday we were in Santa Marta, Columbia, a new port for us. We opted for the Quebrada Valencia Ecological Expedition. It started with a bus ride of about an hour and a quarter. The main feature of the excursion was a hike to the Quebrada Waterfall. During the bus ride, our not very good guide informed us that the hike involved crossing the river 6 times in ankle deep water. There was no notification of this in the Oceania description of the tour. We would obviously be walking in wet shoes! The Oceania description indicated a 30 minute ecological walk to the falls. Unfortunately, our guide provided very little ecological information on the walk, or any useful information for that matter. But the walk was nice and crossing the river 6 times was easy.
At the falls, which did not live up to their description as magnificent, I could not resist going in for a swim. Linda did dip her feet in.
On the hour and a quarter ride back to the pier, our guide provided no information which was probably okay since she was difficult to understand anyway. Oh well, the falls were sort of worth it!
Tomorrow, we make a return visit to Cartagena with no plans since Oceania cancelled the birding excursion that we had planned. We will do one in Hualtuco, Mexico in a few days.
Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry

What a disappointing sounding tour. I'm sure O will get a LOT of feedback on that one. Glad you got to swim and the river crossing wasn't too bad.
