Sevilla - Day 2

Day 2 in Sevilla was another day for walking the city.  But, before I get there, we did make it to the Flamenco show last night.  It turned out that it was the same show that Oceania took their excursions to.  I guarantee you that we paid a lot less by booking it ourselves.  And it gave us the opportunity to take nice evening walks along the waterfront.  It was an entertaining show and we're glad that we checked that box off, but I'd have to say that we enjoyed the Fado show in Lisbon better.

As for our outing today, we started by walking through the Maria Louisa Park which is just across the street from where we are docked.

From there, it was up to the rather huge Plaza de Espana.

Resuming our tour of parks (and there are an impressive number of beautiful parks in Sevilla), we walked through the Jardines de Murillo.

From there, we wandered through the central historic district before arriving at the cathedral.

By the time we tried to book them, on line tickets to the cathedral were sold out so we just took a peek in one small area that was open, sort of a tapas of the cathedral.

And then, finally, it was time for lunch.  Near the cathedral is a restaurant that the Cruise Director, Silas, recommended - Morante.  It was every bit as good as he had said.  In their cooking demo, Claudine and Rollie had talked about using tinned fish as a nice appetizing plate.  The tinned mejillones (mussels) at Morante were excellent.  Prior to seeing the cooking demo, I might have thought that serving fish in a tin at a good restaurant was a bad thing.  Not any more!

After lunch, we worked our way back to the riverfront where I climbed the Torre del Oro.

So, that is it for our terrific 2 days in Sevilla.  Today was only a 3+ hour outing with about 4 miles of walking.   As I am writing this, the ship is preparing to leave Sevilla and sail down the Guadalquivir River.  It will be a beautiful sail away as we head to Portugal.  Tomorrow, we'll be in Portimao in the Algarve region.  We love the Algarve and can't wait to return.

Sometimes when we are eating good food, it is difficult to adhere to the Rules of Civility, but we did the best we could:

91. Make no show of taking great delight in your victuals, feed not with greediness; cut your bread with a knife, lean not on the table neither find fault with what you eat.

Peace and blessings,

Linda and Larry

  1. Did we do a carriage ride with baby Emma in the Plaza de Espana back in the day?
