Two days at sea brought us to Nuuk, Greenland. The sea days were mostly cloudy with a bit of rain but the seas were relatively calm as we sailed with the swell. We did get some sun as we sailed out of Isafjordur on Thursday evening.
Friday's highlight was a cooking demonstration by Claudine and Rollie. It sort of felt like they work together in the kitchen much like Linda and I do.
Friday night we had sailed far enough south for it to actually get dark out. I was up about 3:00 am and looked out to this interesting sight. The lights were from the ship as it sailed through the fog.
Saturday evening again brought some sunshine and a nice sunset.
Sunday, we arrived in Nuuk, Greenland, but with a delay. We were supposed to be anchored at 9:00 am but the captain announced that, due to fog and ice, we would be delayed by 2 hours,
By the time we got to Nuuk the sun was shining brilliantly.
Initially, we were anchored and the ship was using tenders. However, at 2:00 pm the ship that was in port (the Regent Splendor) left and we were re-positioned dock side. That worked out well since the excursion we booked was delayed until late afternoon which meant we did not have to take the tender in.
The excursion was the Guided Short Walk & Visit with a Local Family. A short bus ride took us to the old harbor. The temperature was in the mid-40's, brisk but not bad with the sun shining.
We were then transferred to the home of the local family. They have an apartment on the second floor with great views.
We were hosted by the husband and wife and 2 of their 8 children (a blended family). They had coffee and snacks for us and were very congenial. The husband works 3 jobs plus the hosting tours gig! The wife works for the government tax department.
As we sailed away in the evening, it was back into the fog bank.
Today, Monday, we are supposed to be cruising through the Nuuk Fjord. However, as of 10:00 am we are still waiting for the fog to lift so we can get in. Here's hoping! Stay tuned.
Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
