Bar Harbor All Over Again

Today, Friday, was our third visit to Bar Harbor, Maine in the past 10 years.  Almost exactly 10 years ago we were here on a cruise stop.  At that time the government was shut down but we were able to walk from the town to the Acadia National Park and hike even though it was officially shut down.  We feared that it would be deja vu all over again but the government somehow did not shut down this year.  Then six years ago we were here with our Georgia family - Matt, Traci, Phoebe, Ben, and the very young Zeus.  More on all of that later.

When we arrived at our anchorage spot, the fog completely enveloped us.

The fog finally lifted at about 10:30, so we jumped on a tender to the port.  Our plan was to go to the park and hike but by the time we reached town we decided that a lobster roll was calling so we stopped at the Water Street Cafe for lunch.

After the delicious clam chowder, lobster roll, and blueberry pie, we took the local and free bus service to the Hulls Cove Visitor Center.  From there we did a 5 mile loop on a carriage road which, as it turned out, was the same trail we walked on when we "snuck in" 10 years ago.  Great walk - the sun came out, the trees were turning enough to give us some beautiful colors and the hills were just enough to make it a good workout.  I, of course, took too many photos so I'll just throw a sampling up here for your enjoyment.

If there was one disappointment to the walk, it was the lack of wildlife sightings.  We did see a few ducks, a lone chipmunk, and a couple of massive beaver dams, but no beavers!

Now for the deja vu all over again.  Before we left home I looked at some photos of our walk from 10 years ago.  One stuck out  - a beautiful red tree along the path.  Well, we came to that same tree today and it was just as beautiful.  However, I stupidly did not get the same photo this year but I've included the one from ten years ago and then a selfie that I took under the tree this year.  You'll just have to trust me that it is the same tree!

And just to complete the loop from 6 years ago, here's a couple of photos from back then.

When we returned to the ship, the weather had cooled off and the clouds returned.  And now we are sailing away.

Still no word on any changes to our itinerary.  Stay tuned!  In the meantime,

Peace and blessings,

Linda and Larry
