As if I have to say it again, Thursday was another cloudy day, this time in Warnemunde, Germany. At least the rain mostly held off while we were out. These cloudy Baltic days are getting a bit tiresome.
In the morning, we walked around the port city of Warnemunde. It was a return visit for us - the last time we were there there was an incident with a bird and a fish sandwich that I'll get to later. It is a very pleasant town to walk around and there were many people out and about.
We made our way to the lighthouse and, since there was no tower to climb, we had to climb it. Interestingly, we had to show our vaccination cards in order to climb up.
After the lighthouse we walked through town to the church (of course) and then made our way back to the waterfront.
Now, back to the fish sandwich - when we were last here, I purchased a fish sandwich from one of the kiosks along the waterfront. No sooner had I taken my first bite, when a gull swooped in and swiped the fish right out of the bread. So, my hope was to get another sandwich and actually eat it. By being diligent I was successful this time!
In the afternoon, we took an excursion to Rostock. It started with a boat ride up the Warnow River from Warnemunde (meaning the Mouth of the Warnow) up to Rostock (meaning where the river widens in Slavic). The boat ride was disappointingly unpicturesque, mostly industrial.
And the highlight of the tour - the stop for beer and pretzels which, as you can see, Linda thoroughly enjoyed! Okay, maybe not.
The excursion was another good one. We have gone 4 for 4 on thee excursions we have taken which is quite pleasing. We normally don't do the ship's excursions for a couple of reasons but decided that it might be best to do some this time due to the circumstances. We have no regrets.
Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
