Friday - Malmo, Sweden - yet another overcast morning. So, what else is new? We had an excursion in the afternoon so we took it easy in the morning, hoping that the weather might clear and warm up a bit. Our afternoon excursion took us first to the Turning Torso building which definitely plays tricks with your mind
Finally, we had some time to explore the Old Town of Malmo until the rain came. Where'd you go, Good Weather Fairy?
Malmo was interesting. Parts of the city are very new driven by some high tech industry and it is now the home of IKEA. And it also almost a bedroom community for Copenhagen with the bridge that connects them. I guess that it seemed as if the Old Town was just another old town. Unfortunately, our guide was far from the best that we've had.
Saturday, we were in Skagen, Denmark. The day started off quite nasty - cloudy and windy as usual. We decided to just hang out on the ship until the afternoon when the weather was forecasted to improve. After lunch with our friend Jessica, the sun sort of came out and we hit the town. Skagen is a lovely town. We made our way through the pedestrian street and headed for the Bascule Light - a light that hangs on a crane-like device with a fire basket. It now seems to be a gathering spot for the locals though we missed the Midsummer's Eve celebration when they actually light it.
Next we visited the Skagens Museum which houses art from the colony known as the Skagen Painters. We found the art to be great incorporating influences from the Dutch, Impressionists and others while reflecting the life in Skagen.
Next port is Gothenburg, Sweden before the turnover day in Copenhagen.
Peace and blessing,
Linda and Larry
I was in Malmo almost 20 years ago and was not impressed with it. Esp after living in Copenhagen. (Kimberly)
