ATW Days 98 & 99

Saturday, day 98, we were docked in Le Havre, France.  Our Plan A was to take the train from there to Rouen, a city that we visited many years ago.  Let's just say that a sleep in made us change to Plan B - a visit to Honfleur.  We've been to Honfleur many times and we love it there.  We took an Uber from the port for the 30 minute ride.  On arrival, we saw that it was market day so we started out with a stroll through the market.

After that, we just did a wander through the city - always a great place to wander.

After sitting in a park for a few minutes, we decided to walk down to the waterfront and find a restaurant for lunch.

We settled in a restaurant by the basin where Linda had a cheese galette and I had to settle for mussels!  Before:

After:

We then had time for further wandering before the time that we had arranged for our Uber driver to pick us up.

Walking along the pier, we noticed many mussel shells.  Apparently, the gulls enjoy mussels as much as
I do!

By the pier, Siemens has a large manufacturing facility for wind turbines.  Standing by them gave us a great perspective of just how large those blades are.

It was another good visit to Honfleur with fine weather.

Sunday, Day 99, we were docked in Southampton, UK, a port we had never been to.  We started the day with a walk through the center of the city.

It was an interesting walk but we quickly ran out of things we wanted to see so we walked down to the waterfront and took the ferry to Cowes, Isle of Wight.

When we got there, we were ready for lunch so we quickly made our way to the Anchor Inn for lunch.  I have to  point out that one of the musical shows that the entertainment team puts on is called The Anchor Inn.

After lunch, we strolled around Cowes until it was time to catch the ferry back to Southampton.

We really enjoyed Cowes and decided that it is a place we would like to come back to.

One last bit of catch up.  Isabel Commandeur is a Dutch singer and guest entertainer on Oceania.  We've sailed with her several times and have always enjoyed her shows especially when she sings a special song for us.  She was on Vista for 6 days doing 2 shows, this time accompanied by her boyfriend, Ralf.  In that time, we had 3 meals and a final evening drink with them.  She is delightful; the conversation was lively,  and we have developed a real connection with her.  And we approve of Ralf!

As I am writing this, we are sailing out of Southampton, facing 5 more consecutive port days through the UK and Ireland.  And the ship is again full after a half empty ship since Singapore.

Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry

  1. Well, Oceania is doing a lot of advertising to fill their ships. All the cruise companies are. Almost rivaling pharmaceutical companies' advertising efforts now.

You both were so lovely & radiant in the selfie in France. Be sure to save that one separately or print it to frame. Enjoy the UK❣️Bonnie
