We made it to the Antarctic Peninsula Friday afternoon. On arrival, we were welcomed by about 100 humpback whales swimming all around us. (Photos at the bottom of this post).
Saturday morning we entered the Lemaire Channel (where the captain had to negotiate around a lot of ice) and then we had our first excursion onto Petermann Island. We were taken by zodiac to shore where we saw many penguins. Then we had a zodiac cruise where we saw penguins swimming, seals, whales, and a glacier calving. A great day.
In the afternoon there was an excursion to another island but the morning was a bit strenuous walking over the rocks and snow, so Linda and I took it easy while Amy and Emma went out again. We did do a walk around the deck of the ship and enjoyed the nice weather and the always spectacular views.
We then headed south to the Fish Islands for a zodiac cruise around the Fish Islands on Sunday. Then in the evening we will cross the Antarctic Circle. Watch for the next post.
Peace and blessings,
Linda, Larry, Amy and Emma
