It's Monday and we're docked in Rhodes, Greece.
We thought that we hadn't been here for a while but then a search of the blog and photos revealed that we had been here less than 2 years ago! Oh, this old age. Fortunately, we did not choose the same excursion as last time. Today we did the Traditions of Rhodes & Home Visit excursion. It began with a bus ride to Koskinou where we visited the Rhodes home. It was really more of a museum than someone's actual home but it was interesting to see. And our very good guide, Nectarina, was able to tell us about traditional Rhodian homes.
The next stop was at Bonis Ceramics factory in Kolympia. It was startlingly like another ceramics factory we visited although we don't remember where that one was. Oh, this old age. We were given a demonstration of making a pot that was narrated by the owner of the shop. His father, the founder, had just passed away 2 weeks ago. And his son was one of the people working on pots.
Since we were not in the market for any pots, we went out and enjoyed the view.
The final stop was at Faliraki Beach where we were given coffee and a piece of cake. Sadly, it was not the traditional meliconi that our guide had raved about.
Upon returning to the city of Rhodes, we were given a panoramic drive around. Then we were given the option of leaving the bus and going into the old medieval town which we took. We did a short walk through the town before walking back to the ship (believe it or not, it was hot. About 90 degrees and 80 percent humidity!)
So, that was it for our return to Rhodes. Tomorrow, we have the first of 2 ports in Turkiye, Antalya and Bodrum, neither of which, we don't think, we have previously been to.
I am sure that this was not what Mark Twain had in mind when he said this, but I'll accept that our bad memories indicate that we have a clear conscience!
“A clear conscience is the sure sign of a bad memory”
Mark Twain
Peace, blessings, and wonder,
Linda and Larry
We are enjoying the blog posts. Ann and I were also in Rhodes two years ago. We also visited Bonis ceramics and made a major purchase of one plate!
ReplyDeleteLarry, quit using old age as an excuse. You are a young 76. Bonnie
