Today, Tuesday, we are in Antalya, Turkiye. We have not been here before. Originally, we booked an excursion to visit 2 ruins sites. However, when we checked the forecast and saw the projected temperature to be over 100 degrees, we cancelled. The desire to see more ruins could not compete with the desire to not subject ourselves to 2 hours of walking around ruins in the blazing sun. Instead, we took the shuttle bus into the city of Antalya. We did not realize how big a city it is with a population of over one million and an area population of nearly 3 million. The port is 9 km from the city.
After the 30 minute shuttle ride, we were dropped near the entrance to the old town at about 10 am. I'll keep the description simple. We walked around the old town for about an hour which gave us enough time to see some of the sights and to avoid heat stroke.
It was a relief to get back on the bus. Did I mention that it was hot? We had conflicting temperatures on our weather apps, but either way we were glad that we didn't do the ruins tour. You would think that a couple of former desert rats could stand the heat, but no!
One interesting thing we observed on the bus ride was the rows of ATM machines in the city. After a couple of failed attempts to even locate an ATM in some European cities, this was quite a change (not that we used an ATM).
Turkiye represents our 22nd country visited on this trip. And, our second continent (Asia).
To accommodate the heat and nature, we tried to abide by Rule of Civility Number 52:
In your apparel be modest and endeavor to accommodate nature, rather than to procure admiration keep to the fashion of your equals such as are civil and orderly with respect to times and places.
Peace, blessings, and stay cool,
Linda and Larry
