A Return to Riga

Wednesday we were in Riga, Latvia which brought the country count to 12 on this trip.  The last time we were in Riga we took an excursion outside of the city.  This time we decided to explore the town based on the recommendations of the Crazy Tourist.  We walked along the waterfront and then, crossing into town, we passed by the Riga Castle, the seat of government.

We tried to hit the Crazy Tourist sites in no particular order and we walked into the Old Town, or Vecriga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.  There are many interesting old buildings and guild halls.

We walked to Rozena iela, a very narrow street.

We passed by the Three Brothers.

Other highlights included the Town Hall and Square, the House of the Blackheads, the Cathedral, and other churches and buildings.  It is such an interesting city to just wander around in.

We ended our visit with lunch at the Key to Riga restaurant.

Riga is a terrific city for doing what we like to do best - wander and experience a place.

As I said, we've now been in 12 countries encompassing 11 different languages.  To be polite, we try to speak a few words in the local language.  But, maybe, we are violating the Rule of Civility Number 72.

Speak not in an unknown tongue in company but in your own language and that as those of quality do and not as the vulgar; sublime matters treat seriously.

Peace, blessings, and wonder,
Linda and Larry
