Oh No, Not Nordfjordeid Again!

Today, Sunday, we are anchored off of Nordfjordeid, Norway.  When we visited here last year, we did go into town and concluded 2 things - the town is not very interesting and there is no opportunity for fish soup.  We had initially booked a 7 hour excursion that included a hike to a glacier.  After following the weather for a few days and seeing the forecast for rain and a temperature of 50 degrees, we decided to cancel the excursion and just stay on board.  It is also a tender port which makes going ashore a bit inconvenient.  And it is Sunday which means that most everything will be closed.  So, we are calling this a much needed ship day. Before I proceed with a description of the day, I want to say how pleased we are with the food aboard Sirena.  We credit the executive chef, Paolo, for making it so.  He is also a good friend who will often come sit with us while we are dining.

As an example. last night we were dining in one of the specialty restaurants when he visited.  We talked about fish soup with smoked haddock and he told us that they had some good smoked trout in the buffet restaurant.  He then said that he would set some aside for us to have with breakfast today.  At breakfast this morning, 2 plates of smoked salmon, one cold and one hot, appeared.  Amazing.

The day did, indeed, start off rainy as we were sailing into our anchor position.

Then, after breakfast, the skies cleared and we went for a nice walk around the fitness track.  I suppose that we could have gone into town to walk, but the views of the bay from the track were better than any you would see in town. Note, there is a little snow on the tallest peak. It helped remind us how far north we are.

After our walk, the rain came!  That made it a good time to catch up on blog posts.

In the afternoon, we attended a wine tasting.

Tomorrow, we will be in Trondheim, Norway.  It will be the first time for us.  It looks like there is a good self-guided walking tour that we are planning on doing.  The forecast is for light rain and a high of 51 degrees.  We will just have to tough it out.

At a wine tasting, it is always good to keep in mind Rule of Civility Number 99:

Drink not too leisurely nor yet too hastily. Before and after drinking, wipe your lips; breathe not then or ever with too great a noise, for its uncivil.

Peace and blessings,

Linda and Larry
