If It's Haugesund It Must Be Norwegian Fish Soup

Saturday was a return visit to Haugesund, our first of many ports in Norway.  When we were here last year, Linda was still unable to walk far, so I took a long walk in the morning and we went into town in the afternoon for fish soup.  And it was also my birthday.  More on all of that later.

This time we were able to do a long walk together.  I had hoped to recreate my long walk but a tactical error on my part kept us from doing that.  I didn't realize that the ship was offering a shuttle bus to town and the walk from the ship to town was longer than I remembered so we came up a bit short.  But, it was a good long walk with nice weather, so who's to complain.

Starting off, we crossed a small bridge.

Then we walked over the big bridge into town from which we spotted our intended lunch spot.

We walked through town and out to a viewpoint.

From there, our intent was to go to the head of the Coastal Path but, we instead diverted to Asalvika, a small swimming area after passing the cemetary.

On the way back to town for lunch, we paused in the lovely park.

And then it was finally time for lunch and our return to the Dattera Til Lothe restaurant.  Last year when we were there, it was warm and we were able to sit outside.  I wasn't sure that it would be possible this time.  But it was!  We had the fish soup again and it was even better than last year's!

For comparison, last year is on the left, this year on the right.

One thing to note about Norway is that it is a very expensive place.  For instance, our 2 bowls of soup and 1 beer cost about $70!  Was it worth it?  Absolutely!

This year we were not in Haugesund on my birthday.  Despite that it was still a good visit.

And now, returning to the Rules of Civility, we were sure to adhere to Rule Number 97 despite how delicious the soup was:

97. Put not another bit into your mouth till the former is swallowed. Let not your morsels be too big for the jowls.

Norway brings our country count to 6.

Peace and blessings,

Linda and Larry
