It's Sunday and it was not a day of rest. We were docked in Piraeus, Greece which is the port for Athens. Our initial plan was to take a bus or train into Athens, but we changed the plan. We have been to Athens but never explored Piraeus itself. Looking online, it seemed that walking along the waterfront on the other side of the city from the port would make for a good outing. So, from the commercial port, we walked across town to the waterfront.
It didn't take long before we needed a coffee - Greek Coffee on a Sunday morning with the locals.
Now I've had Turkish Coffee and Greek Coffee. What's next?
We continued walking along the waterfront looking out on the Saronic Gulf passing the walls of the old fortification built about 400 BCE and a monument, a church and an altar.
Continuing on we came to Pasalimani and Marina Zeas where we found many large yachts.
The O'Pari yacht in the background behind Linda is available for rent. So, if we can find another 5 couples who are willing to put up 20,000 Euro each we can rent it for a week! Anyone interested?
There were many restaurants lining the marina and we settled on one along with many Greek families out on a beautiful Sunday afternoon. When in Greece, I had to have a Greek salad and a Greek beer.
After lunch, we walked a little further along the waterfront to where the smaller yachts were moored.
Then we cut through Piraeus passing by a random Greek ruin, a big church and a little chapel before making our way back to the ship.
It turned out to be a very satisfying 5 hour outing and 10K loop. No regrets about not going to Athens!
Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
Any idea where Greek lettuce comes from? Probably not Yuma.
