As promised, here is the special edition blog post about Ponta da Piedade. The name means 'point of mercy' and refers to the time when fishermen used to go to sea from the cape. Their wives waited for them at the top of the cliffs hoping for their safe return.
What should have been a 45 minute walk up there took a little longer due to one small wrong turn that took us to a different part of town. Nothing wrong with that!
Ultimately, we made it there and were immediately overwhelmed. I fear that photos will not capture the beauty of this place, but that won't stop me from throwing many at you!
We had arrived at a really nice looking restaurant with a view, so we opted to have lunch before continuing our walk. It was, of course, a restaurant that specialized in seafood and where you can pick out your fish, which I did. It was a delicious white sea bream.
After lunch, we continued walking along the boardwalks and paths to one fine viewpoint after another.
We walked the 225 steps down to the beach.
Linda felt the water and decided that it was much too cold for her!
So we went through the tunnel to the adjacent beach and then climbed back up the 225 steps.
Heading back to town, we passed more views, including the old man and his castle.
First of all, there can never be too many photos! Fabulous! You inspired me to pull out our Algarve pics from exactly 30 years ago. A week of many same and similar sites & views, and wonderful memories as well.

Terrific! But I can't believe all of those people are in the water!
