It has been a largely uneventful crossing of the Atlantic, until today, that is. The weather has been decent with some wind and some sunshine and a few showers. The seas have been very smooth. If nothing else, we've been kept busy with breakfasts, lunches, and dinners with various officers and staff members.
Then, last night at dinner, we were told that we would be racing full speed to get to Punta Delgada, Azores to get an ill guest to the hospital. That's where the deja vu all over again, again comes in. Last March on Riviera, as we were crossing the Atlantic, we were told that we would be making an unexpected stop in Funchal, Madeira to get an ill guest to the hospital. However, they decided that they could not wait that long and they performed a medical evacuation via helicopter. So, this morning when it was announced that they would be doing the evacuation by helicopter, it was truly deja vu. The photo collages below show the evacuation from March 26, 2022 on the left and today's evacuation on the right. The evacuation process begins with a support airplane circling the ship before the helicopter arrives and performs the evacuation. While you hate to see someone that ill, it is a fascinating process to watch and much credit has to be given to all of the people who execute it. Such skill and courage.
Now we are continuing our sailing towards Punta Delgada. The forecast looks like 20 mph winds so I'm not sure about getting in. We'll see!
Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
To your good health!
