A Tale of Two Nights

Before I write anything more, I need to make one correction to the previous post.  Oceania's new ship is called the Vista.  She is an Allura class ship and her sister ship which will be launched in 2 years will be called Allura.  Now, on to the latest.

We made it to Mexico City albeit almost 2 hours late.  The good news was that our luggage was checked through to Lima so we just had to go through Immigration and our hotel for the night was right in the terminal.  It was a nice hotel which we got to enjoy for only about 5 hours!  The flight to Lima the next morning was uneventful and, after anxiously awaiting for our luggage to arrive, we were picked by a prearranged taxi for the ride to Callao.  Callao is the location of the cruise terminal.  The ride from the airport goes through some less than desirable neighborhoods and we wondered what the B&B that I had booked would be like.  Turns out that the area that the B&B is located is called La Punta and it is lovely - nice buildings near the waterfront.  And, while the Villa La Punta is far from luxurious, it was more than adequate and you can't beat the price - $38 including breakfast!

Compare that to the $200+ the night before in Mexico City and the price for night on Oceania, well I won't go there.

After settling in, we went for a walk along the busy waterfront and its rocky beach.

Ultimately, we stopped for dinner at Incanto Bistro.  The Peruvian food was quite good (ceviche and causas) and the Pisco Sour was quite strong.  It was 2 for 1 night for the Pisco Sours so I had to have 2 and they knocked me for a loop.  Pisco is similar to Orujo which knocked me for a loop in Barcelona, but that's another story which we might repeat when we get to Barcelona!  At least I was able to watch the sunset and the large flocks of birds heading somewhere for the night.

In the morning, I did a jog along the waterfront which was busy with walkers, runners, dog walkers and cyclists - kind of like at home in Long Beach.  There were also rowers, paddle boarders and swimmers in the water.

After breakfast, where all of the other guests seemed to be young enough to be our grandkids, we took another walk along the waterfront before finishing up blog and journal entries.  It will soon be time to pack up and head for the ship.  Needless to say, we are looking forward to that.  We will have an overnight here in Lima before taking to the seas.

Peace and blessings,

Linda and Larry
