Where Have You Gone Larry Offenberg?

It's Monday afternoon and we're enjoying an afternoon aboard as we sail on the Saone from Macon to Tournus.

We opted to stay on board for the sailing rather than doing an excursion with yet another wine tasting.  Linda got a massage and I worked on reserving a hotel for our stay in Lyon, which is another story that I might get to.

There has been a lot of water under the bridge since my last entry (pun intended!) so I'll try to stick to the highlights.  In Valence on Saturday, we did a Cornas Wine Tasting excursion where we visited the vineyard and tasted the Syrah with the winemaker - the fifth generation in his family.

After returning to the ship, we took a walk in the park near the dock.  It was a really nice park and we came upon a bride-to-be and her bachelorette party.  The bride-to-be apparently liked my hat and asked if she could wear it for photos with the group. Then we asked her to take one with us.

On Sunday morning we were in Vienne where we did a hike up to Mount Pipet.  That sounds more aggressive than it was but it was still a good walk up the hill to get views over the city including the Roman amphitheater and the Rhone.  We also walked through the city.

Over lunchtime, the ship sailed up to Lyon where we did a walking tour of the old town.  One of the interesting things there are "hidden" passageways that lead to lovely courtyards.  The old town was quite crowded and we'll explore it some more when we return after the cruise, especially the very popular ice cream shop.

The highlight of the evening was sailing out of Lyon where we got to see the city at night and we got to sail under from very low bridges.

This morning we did a walking tour of Macon which turned out to be a fairly uninteresting city.  Oh well.  We abandoned the tour and walked along the river and across a bridge to St. Laurent.  Then there was the long-awaited coffee stop.

Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry

  2. Do you know the story behind the rickety old wooden building in #34 that looks about to collapse?
