After 2 sea days, we sailed into Maputo this morning. We were greeted by an assortment of insects on our veranda.
We were also greeted by nice, cooler weather.
The Maputo port is one of the nicer ones we've been to. Check out the modern port terminal building 😁. It is quite a busy port handling imports of vehicles and coal.
Our plan was to take the shuttle and/or walk in the city. But . . . soon after breakfast the rain came despite a forecast of decent weather. And, it never really let up all day. So we never got off of the ship. One of our motivations for not getting off was the fact that we were here 11 years ago. It was such a memorable visit that neither of us can recall what we did then! We did get entertained at lunch watching them unload coal.
As I am writing this at 4:00 pm, the rain just continues.
The rain did have 2 advantages. First, it kept the insects away. Second, it allowed me to wash off in our deluxe outdoor shower. The saga of the veranda shower continues. Apparently there is something structural on the ship that cannot be repaired that has resulted in this situation. Let's just say that we've been well taken care of.
Tonight we sail to South Africa, arriving in Durban at 5:00 pm. We're really looking forward to our excursion to a game reserve there on Saturday and then to our 2 day overland safari trip.
Before I wrap this up, here's a trivia question - what is the only country in the world that contains all five vowels only once?
Stay dry!
