It's been a while since I have posted, so you may be wondering why. Or perhaps not. Anyway, we're home now after a fantastic expedition. The combination of being very busy and the slowness of the internet connection on the ship prevented me from posting and I want to catch up. But I am going to start in the middle of the expedition with what was undoubtably the highlight of the trip. Wednesday, day 8 of the expedition, took us to King George VI Sound. The morning started with a helicopter flight. Yes, a helicopter flight. Have I mentioned that the Ultramarine has 2 helicopters on board? The flight only lasted for 15 minutes but it was the flight of a lifetime. Words can do it no justice, so you will just have to forgive me for bombarding you with the photos.
Following the flight, we had a zodiac excursion on the sound. Icebergs and seals!
It was an amazing morning and then it continued into the afternoon. The captain took the ship as far south as it had ever been, and as far south as most of the crew had ever been.
And then, incredibly, the captain embedded the ship in a large piece of sea ice where we were able to take a walk after we had to help pull the ship onto the ice!
We never imagined that we would be walking on sea ice.
Even the Adelie and Emperor penguins were surprised to see us!

Other worldly experience of a lifetime, and wonderful you all shared it together, and with us. 🐧Maddy (couldn't resist)
