Okay, let's start playing catch up. Day 6 started out at Bongrain Point. The morning's outing was supposed to be a split landing and zodiac ride. However, ice build up on the landing site prevented us from making that landing.
So it was plan B. I have to say that the expedition team led by Sarah was amazing. There was always a recap and plan for the next day each evening. But when there were issues, they quickly adjusted and came up with a new plan. So, instead of the split outing, we were taken on zodiac rides and the guides were given permission to do a touch and go if they found a good place to land. The zodiac ride gave us more beautiful views of what Antarctica has to offer.
Our guide then found a spot to make a landing and we were rewarded with a group of Weddell seals just lounging on the rocks. As with most of the wildlife in Antarctica, they were totally unfazed by our presence.
The afternoon came and, along with it, plan C. We were supposed to go to Bigourdan Fjord but that was changed to Horseshoe Island (I don't remember why!). We started with a zodiac landing where there was restored research station from the 1950's.
Nearby, a solitary seal checked out from the water.
There were also many rocks with malachite deposits in the surface cracks.
The ensuing zodiac ride took us past guess what? That's right, more beautiful scenery and interesting icebergs.
It was just another day in the paradise of Antarctica!
Peace, blessings and awesomeness,
Linda, Amy, Emma, and Larry
