Un Autre Jour, Un Autre Moules Frites

Friday we were in Toulon, France.  We had an afternoon excursion and in the morning we went for a walk in town.  It was a short walk off the pier and we soon found the main street which was basically a lengthy market.

We passed by a shop that was selling La Cade, the traditional Toulon chickpea cake baked over a wood fire.  I could not resist.

After the market street, we made our way to the cathedral and some other sights before returning to the ship.

On our way back to the ship, we passed some restaurants along the waterfront that were offering mussels.  My intent was to pass on the mussels that day but, as with La Cade, I could not resist.  Since it was before noon, the restaurants were not yet open so we went back to the ship, prepared for our afternoon excursion, and went back for mussels.  They were not as good as the previous day's but I still enjoyed them.  And Linda enjoyed her salad.

The excursion took us to two towns outside of Toulon.  First was the seaside town of Sanary-sur-Mer.  We had a guided walk around the lovely town.

Of course, there was a stop at the cathedral.

We then walked up a hill to a view point which was just below the house of Jacques Cousteau.

The next stop was the medieval hill top town of La Castellet.

We got some good views of the Bandol region.

And that led to the big disappointment of the excursion.  Bandol is known for its wine.  However, during our free time, we were unable to find a bistro that served wine by the glass!  All we could do is admire the vineyards.

Saturday, we returned to Barcelona.  More on that in the next post.

Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry

  1. Sounds like coastal France is not like CA with wine tasting shops on every corner & in between. 😂 Bonnie
