Time to catch up. Today, Thursday, we are docked in Piraeus, Greece, the port for Athens. Before I get here I need to fill you in on the 3 prior days. Monday we were in Dubrovnik, Croatia. It was a late morning arrival. In the past, we have walked from the cruise port to the old town, but it was quite hot so we took the shuttle bus with Marc and Yasuko. We stopped for a look outside of the walls before entering.
Tuesday we were in Kotor, Montengro (country number 17). The day started with a beautiful sail in.
Yasuko and Marc went in early to climb up to St. John's Fortress. We have done that before (and it was hot!), so we opted for an excursion which started with a guided walk through the old town.
Then came the best part of the tour. An hour ride took us to an olive tree farm.
The farm has been in the family for 8 generations and, today, is run by 3 sons. One of the sons, Ilya, was our guide at the farm. It was interesting to hear about the history of the farm and the process for making the olive oil (both the old and new processes).
The visit ended with a snack accompanied by local wine and,, of course, olive oil.
Wednesday was an uneventful, non-winning Bingo, day at sea.
Now, back to Pireaus. We have been to Athens before and will be again at the end of our cruises. And it is hot. Don't believe me? Look at this:
So Linda and I just took a morning walk around the city. Not much to see (except for the Lion of Piraeus), but at least we got in an hour walk in country number 18.
You might say that it was as hot as blazes in Piraeus which brings to mind Rule of Civility Number 9:
Spit not in the fire, nor stoop low before it neither put your hands into the flames to warm them, nor set your feet upon the fire especially if there be meat before it.
Peace, blessings and stay cool,
Linda and Larry
Almost like being back home in Phoenix... 😂. Bonnie G
