So, it's 2:00am on Saturday, July 6th and we are still waiting for our flight to Reykjavik where we will be boarding the Oceania Sirena. As we typically do, we planned on arriving in Reykjavik a day early just in case. Well, the day started off fine with our on time flight from LA to Newark. Weather caused a bit of a delay in leaving Newark which was not a problem. We finally boarded the flight and had our usual champagne.
And then things got weird. We waited for some late arriving passengers and for the ground crew to attend to a few maintenance issues. Finally, almost 3 hours past our scheduled departure time we were pushed out from the gate where we sat for about 10 minutes before the pilot came on and said that they had timed out and the flight would be cancelled. So, back to the gate we went, got off the plane and chaos ensued. We were able to book another flight over the phone for the next day when they made a gate announcement that they had found another crew and we would be leaving after all. And now we are still waiting for the last pilot to arrive and it looks like it will be a 4:00am departure. And for another weird twist, when we were told that the flight would go, they said that they would not be able to reload our luggage and that it would be put on a flight tomorrow. We would have to go to the airport to pick it up. But, with the latest delay, they will be able to reload the luggage. What a strange evening.
When we do get to Reykjavik and get on Sirena, we will be cruising around Iceland and then sailing to Greenland and eventually Scandinavia with many ports in Norway. We will be leaving Sirena in Oslo 34 days later. The rest of the trip will certainly not be this exciting (we hope)!
Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
Hey, it's Jersey! We like to keep you guessing. Enjoy your 34 day mix of old and new. I just looked at your Aug. '22 blog, recalling your Norway adventures. Wishing you & Sirena smooth travel and good weather. We had to skip northernmost port of Trondheim in June, so here's to no detours🍷!
