Catching Up From Reykjavik

Well, it's been 4 days since I've posted.  Blame it on being busy and having poor internet service.  So, here goes.

After leaving Djupivogur, we were in Torshavn, Faroe Islands on Saturday.  We arrived in port at 1:00 pm and we took a walk around the town and port area.  We were last here in September of 2022 so most of what we saw was familiar.

This collage shows photos from 2022 and 2024.  Some things never change.

Sunday morning, I took a long walk.  The information stand at the port had a map that showed a 10 km loop around Torshavn so I started walking that.  The day was brilliantly sunny unlike the overcast of the previous day.  First stop was up at the lighthouse.

I then followed the road along the coastline.

It was nice to see a local enjoying the beautiful weather.

I continued along to the Bodanes Headlands.

All through the walk I saw houses with geese in the yards.  For food, I'd guess.

Continuing on, the road turned inland to some nice views and, eventually, a road up to the lovely little Svartifossur waterfall.  Sitting by the waterfall, enjoying a little snack would have been lovely except for the 2 women who sat there yakking away!

After the waterfall, I could have followed the rest of the loop but it was getting late (that is, time for lunch) and the loop would take me to a park that we visited last time, so I opted for a direct route back to the port.  After the aforementioned lunch, Linda and I went for a walk along the first part of the loop.  Linda got to pose for a photo (me too) and to feed the sheep.

As we sailed out of Torshavn, we were rewarded with the only good sunset that we've had on this cruise.

Monday was a mostly uneventful day at sea - well, except for Linda's $333 bingo win!

Tuesday we were supposed to be stopping in Heimaey, Iceland.  It is an island known for it's large population of birds.  We had booked an excursion to take us around the island by boat.  As we approached the island, I watched from our veranda window and saw 2 things - the rather narrow entrance to the harbor and the wind blowing.  We soon stopped and began to turn away.  Nope, we weren't going to be going to Heimaey that day.

And so, it was another sea day.  Unfortunately it was not a bingo winning sea day.

Today we are back in Reykjavik.  It's a big turnaround day with only 14 of us continuing on for the next cruise.  This morning we had our planned change of suite - going from the Vista Suite to just a Penthouse.  Somehow, we'll survive.  The day is overcast with some rain in the forecast, so we're just staying on board.  Tomorrow we are back in Isafjordur and then it's over to Greenland.  We have already had a change of itinerary for the next cruise.  Due to ice floes, they have had to cancel one Greenland port.  We will also not be going through the Prince Christian Sound (same thing happened the last time we did Greenland) but will be doing the Nuuk Fjord instead.  That looks quite nice so I'm looking forward to it.

After leaving Greenland, we'll have another stop in Torshavn before proceeding to 2 ports in Scotland and then on to Hamburg for another turnaround day.

Peace and blessings,

Linda and Larry
