Guayaquil x 2

Today is our second day in Guayaquil, Ecuador.  I'll get day 2 out of the way quite quickly.  Our plan for today was to go to the Guayaquil Historic Park for a couple of hours.  Though the weather forecast was not bad, we awoke to rain and it was obvious that it had rained heavily over night.  There is just no escaping the crazy weather!  While at breakfast, the Cruise Director announced that due to the rain and some damage in the city, the ship's excursions would be delayed.  We made the quick decision to forego the Historic Park.

The local tourist person on board had arranged a taxi for us so I sent her a WhatsApp message to cancel the ride.  As a note, WhatsApp has been a great way to communicate with people all over the world.

It will just be another grueling day on board but at least we have massages scheduled for later this afternoon!

Now, as for yesterday, we took a shuttle bus into Guayaquil proper - a 40 minute ride.  The shuttle bus was a bit of a problem as there were many guests wanting to go into the city so the wait for the bus was quite long but at last we made it on one.

The drop off point was by the Parque Seminario which was almost overrun with Iguanas.

After visiting with the Iguanas, we walked along the new Malecon boardwalk along the Guayas River.  It was a nice walk that felt very safe (there had been the usual warnings about safety from the ship and from the local tourist person).  The only downside was that it was hot and humid - it is the tropics, after all!  Here are some pics from the walk.

Did I mention that it was very hot and humid?  When we reached the turn around point of the walk, we were ready for beer and lunch.  We found a nice restaurant where we indulged in said beer and Mexican style pizza on a plantain crust.  Yum.

Refreshed, we walked back to the bus stop and returned to the ship.  An iced coffee and a shower might never have felt so good!

And the reward for the day's effort was just another beautiful sunset.

Tonight we sail to Manta, Ecuador, our last port in South America before heading up to Panama.

Peace and blessings,

Linda and Larry
