Today, Thursday, we were in Burnie, Tasmania. Before I go there, I want to share with you the beautiful sunset view from last night.
We had a plan for the day which was well executed. Since we will be returning here next week, we mostly wanted to walk and discover to help us decide what to do on our return. The town provided a shuttle into the CBD since you are not allowed to walk on the pier. Once in town, we made a beeline to the waterfront with the goal of checking out the Little Penguin Observation Centre. We did pass the library and some neat artwork.
The Little Penguins (I'm not making that up, they really are named Little Penguins) are in the water during the day and do the parade in the evening. But, since it is the season when the young are in their nests we got some limited views of the young ones. The nests are man made to provide a safe habitat. Look carefully and you can see the Little Penguins.
After visiting the Little Penguins, our next goal was Burnie Park and Oldaker Falls. It was a good climb up through the park (passing the ubiquitous was memorial) and the falls were small but nice.
The trail then looped down along the creek to the park and the main road.
We crossed the main road to get to the Coastal Pathway and walked about 2.5K out along the coast until we reached Cooee Creek Beach.
On returning, we again passed the penguin centre and, in addition to getting more views of the Little Penguins we did spot a wallaby in the bush.
We completed our day with a lunch on the waterfront (complete with the ubiquitous water park) and a brief walk through town.
So, we got a good taste of Burnie and look forward to our return. Our plans are not set, but we have some ideas. That leaves me with today's truism - "PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE IS ESCAPISM"
Now, I am sure that you are all wondering where the photo of the Little Penguin in a red bikini is, right? Well, let's just say that the mama penguins do not allow the young ones to wear bikinis at that age!
Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
Nice color coordination on the beautiful sunset. You all look great! Thanks again for taking us along on this fascinating voyage. Maddy
