If It's Thursday, It Must Be Mussels and Chocolate In Belgium

Brugges, Belgium today for our penultimate port of call.  The ship actually docked in Zeebrugges which made getting to Brugges just a little complicated.  First we took the ship's shuttle bus to the train station in Blankenberge and the train into Brugges.  We altered our usual routine of leisurely breakfast to hustle to make the bus and train and it all worked out well.

After arriving in Brugges, it was a bit of a walk through the lovely town until we got to the bustling center with all of the sights to see.

When we reached the beautiful Markt Square, it was time for a stop for coffee and a Belgian waffle at the apparently historic Craenenberg Cafe.  We didn't realize it was historic until we read that Maximillian of Austria was imprisoned there in 1488.  Not a bad place to be imprisoned!

It was then time to do a bit more wandering to view more sights and to find the chocolate shops.  There is no lack of chocolate shops in Brugges, but we had 2 specific ones in mind.  The first was Sukerbuyc which the Crazy Tourist says has some of the best chocolate in the world.  Next, was our Belgian standby, Neuhaus.  We bought chocolate from both to bring home.

By then, it was time for Moules Frites.  They are always wonderful in Belgium!  No mussels for Linda!

After lunch, we had enough time to take a leisurely stroll back to the train station through a different part of Brugges.  It all made for a nice return to Brugges after many years away.

Peace and Blessings,

Linda and Larry
