Day 4 Hike Complete!

Four down one to go.  This tour is called South Downs to the Sea.  Today our walk took us from South Downs to the Sea.  And you will See that later.

The route took us from the The Royal Oak in East Lavant to the Millstream Hotel in Bosham (apparently properly pronounced 'bozzum').  It was a paltry 11.7km walk.

As you may recall, the weather forecast called for rain, but the weather gods cooperated.  It looked like it had rained overnight and, after a brief sprinkle during breakfast, the rain was over!  So we started off under cloudy skies and eventually we had peeks of sunshine.  It made for comfortable walking as did the very flat terrain.

After a short time we joined the Centurion Way, a former railway and now a broad paved path.  We came across these interesting sculptures made from former acetylene tanks.

As we walked along the path, we saw many people out walking their dogs.  The people and their dogs were very friendly.

We came to the Brandy Hole Copse which has a history ranging from pre-Roman earthworks to WWII anti-tank barriers.

Next we came to the Millennium Country Park with a couple of ponds and walking paths.

Before long, it was time to leave the paved path and resume our trekking over hiking paths and fields and along streams.  This included crossing bridges, stepping over gates, and crossing train tracks.  We also passed much construction.  It looked as if they are building a whole new city on the outskirts of Chichester.

We knew we had made it to sea level when we came to the reedbeds along the Fishbourne Channel.  This path can be unpassable at high tide but we were enough past the morning's high tide that we had no problem.

The view finally opened up to the Fishbourne Channel.

And then, after more walking along fields and fences we arrived at Bosham and the Millstream Hotel.

Since our room was not quite ready, we backtracked a bit to a cafe by the waterfront where we had a delightful lunch and a well-deserved dessert.

Tomorrow we have a choice of 2 options to walk - one of 14.5km and one of 16.3km.  We'll have to read up and decide.  And the forecast is good.

Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
