Sunday we were docked in Naples (Italy, not Florida). As we were planning our day, we considered a return to Pompeii or a return to Sorrento. Then we realized that we had never explored Naples. I had been there on a business trip maybe 35 years ago and had come away with a very negative impression of the place. It was time to give it another chance and we had a great day. It was Sunday and it was also a holiday (May 1st) and it seemed to us that no one who lived in Naples was at home - they were all out and about. Agnese, the Italian woman serving in Baristas, suggested some places to go and, of course, some food to eat.
We worked our way to the Via Toledo, the crowded pedestrian street, the spectacular indoor galleria, and found a spot to sample the recommended local pastry, the Sfogliatella.
We then decided to head for the recommended pizza restaurant. But first we came upon the Basilica Reale Pontificia San Francesco da Paola. It was beautiful and, as a bonus, we witnessed the start of a wedding.
We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed Naples and we didn't come close to seeing all there is to see there. Next time!
Today is a welcome, relaxing day at sea as we head for the Adriatic. In recognition of my haste to judge Naples, I offer today's Rule of Civility: Rule #50. Be not hasty to believe flying reports to the disparagement of any.
Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
Hi Larry, your comment "Sunday we were docked in Naples (Italy, not Florida)." Reminds me of a tour I was on. A tourist asked the guide if we were going to visit Naples. The guide responded with an emphatic Alora! No! No! No! Naples is in Florida, today we will go to Napoli.
