Friday we were in Gijon, Spain.
We took the shuttle into town at about 10:30am and found the town to be quite sleepy. Our first planned stop was at the Roman Baths (those Romans got around, didn't they?). We found at that the baths did not open until 1:00pm so we walked around to the see the other sights (including the Bateria Alta [the old high defensive battery], a few chapels and the spear fisherman with his catch on his belt) until we found a taberna open for a cortado.
Wandering further, we found many interesting photographs posted on walls.
When we walked back to the main square and the waterfront we found that the city had come alive and redeemed itself. Eventually we made it back to the Roman Baths to find that we needed a reservation to visit and we just didn't have the time to do it. Wandering further we came across the remnants of a gate through the old Roman walls.
We returned to the ship for a busy evening starting with a wine tasting.
Then there was the Oceania Club party followed by dinner in Privee with the General Manager. Be the time we rolled into bed, overindulgence was the word of the day!
Today's port is Vilagarcia, Spain which serves as a gateway to Santiago de Compostela. Since we had already been there, we figured it would be another day of wandering the port city. Sailing in we passed many oyster or mussel farms. And then the rain came as forecasted.
Since there didn't seem to much to see or do in Vilagarcia (except for a last cortado in Spain) we decided to treat the day as a sea day. In other words, unless the weather makes a rapid and dramatic change, we'll just stay on the ship!
Tomorrow, it's Porto, Portugal, then it's Lisbon and the end of the cruise.
Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
OMG, you have my full admiration to be able to make it through an evening with so many eating & drinking activities! Well, considering I am 10 years older than you, that explains everything ๐๐ ๐คฃ.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy Porto - it's such a lovely town - or are you planing an excursion to the Duoro Valley for some wine tasting.
And then, there is Lisbon - we just can't manage to be there together ๐๐ช
It has been a lot of fun following your portside excursions and hearing about your activities onboard the Oceania! I’m not quite sure I would be ready to head home. I look forward to hearing about your time in Porto and Lisbon. ๐
