Yes indeed, the road we are traveling is full of twists and turns. But, first, I'll start with where we are before I get to where we are going.
Our trip from home to Stockholm was mostly good. Regarding the need for a negative Covid test, it was definitely needed. They checked our test result 3 times - first at LAX, then at Heathrow, and finally when we arrived in Stockholm. The flight from LAX to Heathrow was flawless, right on time. The flight from Heathrow to Stockholm, not so good. We were over an hour late leaving Heathrow. The reason - they were short of luggage handlers so the plane we were on sat for over an hour until they could unload its luggage and then load ours. The good part of the delay was that I was able to watch a nice sunset as we approached Stockholm!
Today we spent a few hours walking around the old town. It was a cool morning as you can see.
Eventually, the sun shined and it warmed up in time for a coffee and cinnamon roll stop on the main square. Along the way, we remembered how much we enjoyed walking around a foreign city and absorbing the scenery and culture. It is good to be back. After a nice Swedish lunch, we returned to the hotel for our afternoon anti-jet-lag nap. When we awoke, the fun began. We received an email from Rosemary, our travel agent, saying that, due to Sweden and The Netherlands closing their borders to Americans, the itinerary for the cruise had changed. Instead of going from Stockholm to Amsterdam, the cruise was now from Copenhagen to Copenhagen. No real surprise but oy vey! A definite twist and turn on our road. We are unsure if the current cruise will still disembark here in Stockholm and, if it does, whether we will be able to embark here. If not, we will have to make our way to Copenhagen. At least Denmark has not barred all Americans - only the unvaccinated. There are numerous flights to Copenhagen and Oceania is compensating for flight changes (and also providing some other compensation for the inconvenience).
So now, we'll wait and see which way the road turns. Stay tuned for the next chapter of "As The Road Turns"!
Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
Just got a call from Oceania telling us that we can board the ship in Stockholm. The road just got a bit straighter!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful sunset! And great that you are boarding from
ReplyDeleteStockholm! Flexible adventurers!
And maybe the URL you provided is too truncated.... It wouldn't work for me - says it doesn't exist - so I was able to get back to my original sign in and from there to your NEWS!

ReplyDeleteYay! Glad to see you back in your element, traveling the globe. Can't wait to hear about the rest of the journey.
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to this virtual cruise. No worries for me, just the joy of sites and sounds, and for the smell, I have gone to the spice cabinet for cinnamon.
ReplyDeleteHere in Florida, we are still quarantining. So keep the posts coming. We would love to be there with you. Boy, we miss cruising. Pat & Angelo
