Our Last 2 Ports of Call

Sunday we were in Palma de Majorca.  The day started out quite overcast with a possibility of some light rain.  Since we'd been there several times before, we decided to wait it out and see if the weather improved.

Then, finally after lunch, there was a hint of sunshine and we decided to take a walk along the waterfront.  It is a relatively new promenade which was quite nice to walk on though Linda got cold!

Eventually, it did warm up and we were able to explore a bit of the old city wall.

We were then surprised to come across a statue of a famous Romanian scientist.  The photo made the Romanian Food & Beverage Manager, Marius, and the Romanian Restaurant Manager, Laurentiu, very proud!

We felt very safe in Palma as the aircraft carrier USS Gerald R Ford was anchored in the harbor.😁  Apparently the local people were glad to have it - the sailor's come into town and spent lots of money at the bars.

Monday we were in Cartagena, Spain (not Columbia).  Once again, the day started out gray with a chance of rain.  

But then we saw the hint of blue sky, and went for a walk.

Cartagena is a nice place to walk around with its interesting architecture and many churches.

                                                                

What was most interesting was watching Mary hail an Uber!

Did I mention that they also have Roman ruins?

Linda had me take 2 photos here as she wasn't sure which was her better side!  (It is fun to play with Google Photos).

We eventually worked our way up to the market but, as it was Monday, most everything was closed.

Linda insisted on taking a number and on waiting for the fish market to open.

Of course, there is always time for a cortado in Spain.

This morning, Tuesday, we disembarked Nautica in Malaga where we will spend a couple of days before heading back to Malta for the wedding.

Barcelona De Nou

Saturday we returned to Barcelona.  We had found a Rick Steves Barcelona City Walk audio tour.  We set off from the ship and did our usual walk over the bridge into the city.

After saying hello to Columbus, we headed to La Rambla and a stop for sangria and a snack.

We decided not to walk all the way up to Placa de Catalunya where the walk was supposed to begin.  Instead we started at Placa Nova which was stop number 8.

From there, we continued the tour past the cathedral and other sights.

And then the tour took us into the old Jewish Quarter and past the door to the old synagogue.

We then arrived at the Placa de Sant Jaume with its two big government buildings.

The next stop was the most surprising for us - the Roman Temple of Augustus.  It's the only remaining remnant of the Roman occupation of the area.

The final stop of the tour was at the Placa del Rei where there was a bride and groom posing for photos.  It seems that we often run into these scenes on our travels.

The walking tour took us to parts of Barcelona that we hadn't been to before which made it really worthwhile.  After a stop for another snack, we walked back to the ship somewhat exhausted from our 7+ mile adventure.
