Wrapping Up The Road Trip

We're now in Holly Springs, Georgia for Thanksgiving with our son Matt and family.  So let me wrap up  the road trip.  On our final day in Savannah, we drove to lunch at a restaurant that Matt recommended, Despositos.  It was a good, crabby lunch sitting out in the fine weather.

We then continued on to Skidaway State Park where we walked 2 of the trails.  We did get a few wildlife sightings including a fiddler crab, an egret, and a raccoon but, alas, no alligators in the ponds.

On Monday, we drove up to Charleston, making a stop on Hilton Head Island just to see it.

We went to Charleston to visit our old friends Jimmy and Barbara Bernstein who live on the Isle of Palms.  Jimmy and I worked together for a couple of years at GE in Cincinnati in the mid 70's where we became good friends.  We remained friends after Jimmy left engineering to join his family's restaurant business.  Jimmy became the founder of the Howl At The Moon piano bar franchise.  It had been about 46 years since we had seen each other.  It was great to catch up with them and really nice to meet their family who were there for the Thanksgiving holiday.  A definite highlight of our road trip.

We drove up to Holly Springs on Tuesday, stopping at Georgia Tech to pick up our grandkid Ben.
Now we're looking forward to a wonderful Thanksgiving and time with our family here before we fly back to Miami for our cruise back home.

Here's to a peaceful and blessed Thanksgiving for all!

Sunny in Savannah

We arrived in Savannah on Thursday and checked into our spacious apartment in the North Historic District, our home for the next 4 days.

We settled in and provisioned that evening.  On Friday morning, we walked up to Forsyth Park, a large lovely green space.

We had a nice lunch at the restaurant in the park.

Walking around Savannah you pass by many historic buildings (and bars).

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas in Savannah (despite the record high temperatures).

In the evening, we walked to the Christmas Market along the riverfront.  Now we don't have to do a Christmas Market river cruise in Europe!

After the market, we found time to pay tribute to Johnny Mercer and to stop for ice cream at Leopold's.

Saturday morning I was treated to a nice sunrise on my morning walk/jog.

After a morning of laundry and leisure (hey, I had logged almost 10 miles the day before), we walked up to the Colonial Park Cemetery.  It was quite interesting to see the graves and the information about the colonists resting there. We felt like we were walking through a chapter in American history.

Later in the afternoon, we walked out to the Waving Girl Statue.

As the sun was setting, we went up to the rooftop Electric Moon bar for drinks and a bite to eat and to watch the night arrive.

It's named Electric Moon after the original lights in Savannah which they called electric moons.

We have one more day in Savannah before we head up to Charleston.  Before I wrap up this post, word of warning if you visit Savannah - pay attention to the parking signs, which I did not!

Peace and blessings,
Linda and Larry
